Target the vast range of S60 devices

Proportionally the Symbian OS and specifically the S60 market share is far greater than that of Windows Mobile based devices. The opportunity exists for application developers now to enter the Symbian smartphone application market.

Target Symbian OS Devices using .NET

Red Five Labs enables applications targeting Microsoft's .NET Compact Framework 1.0 to run unchanged on Symbian OS powered mobile phones. Symbian OS is the operating system running the smartphones of, amongst others, Nokia and Sony Ericsson. The S60 user interface platform is at present the dominant player in the smartphone market segment.

Who are our Customers?

Red Five Labs has a product offering that appeals to two main categories of customers, namely:

  1. Independent Software Vendors (ISVs), and
  2. Enterprise Development Houses (System Integrators).

What aspect of our mobile compact framework appeals to ISVs?

Over and above the ability to immediately reuse .NET CF1.0 applications to target the vast S60 smartphone market segment, the two main compelling reasons for ISV's to adopt .NET technology when writing mobile software applications for Symbian S60 devices are:

  • an attractive royalty-free product pricing makes it viable to develop applications which retail for less than $50, and
  • the .NET compact framework reduces the investment (development time and maintenance) necessary to create new products targeting Symbian devices.

Enterprise Customers also benefit from .NET on Symbian

The .NET suite of technologies is a well accepted enterprise grade development platform, and other than being able to immediately leverage existing skills and code bases, enterprise customers stand to benefit from our offering in the following three ways:

  • targeting the dominant smartphone market segment becomes an attractive value add proposition when extending line-of-business applications in the field,
  • the compact framework provides a stable platform to target when developing custom solutions which means less project goal shifting and subsequent code maintenance, and
  • the ability immediately to integrate mobile solutions to other .NET services such as Web Services (and the inherent value therein) cannot be over emphasised.

Programming Languages

C# and VB.NET developers can now target Symbian OS devices with the .NET Compact Framework for Symbian OS.
